چکیده

Ten UsOs reference materials certified for impurities were used to develop the analytical procedure. A sequential wavelength dispersive X-ray spectrometer was used to perform the measurements. The measurement conditions were optimized to assure the best signal to background ratios and the minimum spectral interferences. Nineteen elements (Al, Bi, Ca, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, MO, Na, Ni, Pb, Si, Ti, V, W, Zn, Zr) can be determined above the 10 to 20 ppm level in a measurement time equal to 150 s for single element (50 s line intensity and 2 x 50 s background). The precision and accuracy is assessed based on the counting statistics and the confidence limits of the certified element concentrations.

Impurities Determination on Nuclear Fuel Element Components for the IEA-R1 Research Reactor by Analytical Methods based on ED-XRF and ICP-OES

The production of nuclear fuel used in the research reactor at Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN/CNEN-SP) requires a series of chemical and metallurgical processes. The quality of the end product depends on the control over all the stages of the manufacturing process and over the quality of raw materials employed. In fact, spectrometric methods are increasingly used as quanti...

Determination of High Zn and Pb Concentrations in Polluted Soils Using Energy-Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

A method of determination of high Zn and Pb concentrations by means of EDXRF (energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry) is presented. Zn and Pb concentration in soil samples from contaminated areas ranged within a limit of Zn: 800–2000ppm and Pb: 200–600ppm. Soil analysis was conducted directly after the samples had been dried and powdered, as well as in situ in polluted areas. Due to ...

Determination of Chemical State and External Magnetic Field Effect on the Energy Shifts and X-Ray Intensity Ratios of Yttrium and Its Compounds

The term 'X-ray fluorescence analysis' (XRF) refers to the measurement of characteristic fluorescent emission resulting from the deexcitation of inner shell vacancies produced in the sample by means of a suitable source of radiation. For a particular energy (wavelength) of fluorescent light emitted by a sample, the number of photons per unit time (generally referred to as peak intensity or coun...
